From Milton Eagle. Grant Morse, alias T. 8. Smith, a man well known to Umatilla county offioers. is under arrest at Colfax, charged with tbe murder ot Orville Havden near Earmington not long ago. Tbe mur dered man's father, John Hayden, has seoured what be considers very damag ing evidence connecting Morse with the orime. About two months ago Morse was in the Umatilla oounty jail, charged with selling a wagon wbiob he borrowed from Pendleton German, says the East Ore- gonian. lie managed to get out of this scrape, however. La Forge, superintendent of the Blue Mountain Mining Co , of tbis place, sends an encouraging report from Missoula, Montana, where he went a short time ago with samples of ore from the oompany's mines near tbis oity. The rook essays from $3.00 to SI 1.25, and a number ot assays run at $8.00 to the ton. The ore proves to be free milling, and as the supply is almost inexhaus tible tbe oompany have a good thing and in consequence are mooh elated over the reports returned tbem by Mr. La Forge. By putting in proper machinery, tbe mine will yield from $80 to 8100 per day based on the figures given above. It now looks like Heppner is to be tbe sup ply point for one ot the riobest mining distriots In the state, and we hope fur ther developments will prove it to be so. Tbe Blue Mountain Mining Co. are now pretty well prepared for oarryiog on tbe work through the winter, having re cently constructed suitable buildings tor blacksmith shop, bunk house and cook house, and intend tbat the work shall move right along. Other parties inter ested in the same distriot are preparing tor effective work, and the extent of our mines will scon be developed.
